How does this all Work?
That last part – figuring out how things work – has always been the most fascinating part of nutrition and working with families and children to me. The question of how does this all work? Children can certainly be a confusing bunch.
I have always been curious about how things work, how us humans respond to different environmental conditions. What makes us wake up in the morning with a spring in our step, what keeps us smiling when we are tired, how do we get the best out of our bodies and out of ourselves? Over the past 10 years I have tried to answer that question through the lens of nutrition. During this time I have become a kids nutrition expert and teaching families about nutrition is my passion. I found the question of “how does this all work?” more and more engrossing as time has gone on. I have combed through books and articles on nutrition, parenting, kids nutrition and food psychology. Now I want to share that with you!
Sometimes the real evidence-based advice is drowned out because the subject matter is so dry and de-humanized.
While nutrition textbooks might describe the process the body uses to digest food or the function of “the liver” in nutrition. It’s impossible to just explain the way one part of the body relates to the food we eat without also including the many other things that eating can influence. It would be like saying that food is just fuel. You would be missing out all the other things that eating has a big part in things like our, growth and development, our social connections and mental health. Nowadays everyone has their opinions about health and nutrition. Sometimes the real evidence-based advice is drowned out because the subject matter is so dry and de-humanized.
